Evening light & testing the camera

Making the space

To create the space, I used cardboard for the walls which I then painted white. I used a palette knife for this to create a more wall-like effect instead of the cardboard texture. To highlight the scale, I made a small fruit bowl from air dry clay which is in the window of the space. I also painted a layer of acrylic gloss on the floor in order to reflect the light even more and create a crystally shine.

Exploring lighting in space

Having made the shell of the space for my outcome, I wanted to do a few tests to explore the best way to light it. There are two points that the light can come from - the window at the back and the corridor to the side. I have been using a torch and a lamp, which I can angle to cast shadows in different places. To take the photos, I am using a DSLR camera with a fast shutter speed in order to capture the light - this has compromised the aperture, meaning I'm not really able to get the whole image in focus, especially because the corridor is very long and narrow. Despite this, I really like the overall atmosphere of the images. I have begun to try different ways of putting the paintings within the space - I want to be able to move them around in order to explore different colour combinations, so I don't want to permanently stick them to the walls. I will try doing this both physically and digitally on Photoshop.
