Initial Sketches
For this week’s drawing task, we had to draw negative space in an area of our house. Initially, I decided to draw objects in my Mum’s pottery studio in the garden. I started to draw the shapes of pots of tools and objects, and then moved to drawing the view out of the window. I really like these window drawings, I think mainly because I prefer to draw the detail into shapes, but also because they feel more reflective of the environment and the mood I was in.
Gouache Pears & Views from Windows
I found throughout the week that my workspace kept moving around and that I haven’t been able to settle in one place, however I kept coming back to drawing the space beyond my house – either out of windows or beyond fences. I particularly like the contrast in this sheet of the detailed drawing out of the window against the linear paintings of the pears from the fruit bowl. I think similarly to the initial sheet I did, the colours and the drawings in combination reflect the rainy weather and a sense of the space.
Collaged Pears Influenced by Paintings
I decided to take the shapes of the pears and use them to create collaged pieces using scraps of handmade papers I found. These shapes became more and more abstracted, which I really like in contrast to the initial paintings I did.
